Exton, Pa. and Irvine, Calif. (January 9, 2012) – Scala Inc., the industry’s leader in end-to-end digital signage solutions, and IAdea, pioneer and leader in the open platform for digital signage media appliances, today jointly announced a new generation of HTML5-capable digital signage devices from IAdea designed to work with Scala’s Enterprise Content Manager software and SignChannel, Scala’s low-cost cloud-based service.
HTML5 is the next-generation content platform for the web and mobile devices. By embracing the new standard, digital signage users can re-use content made for websites and mobile devices by re-purposing media assets for use in digital signage. In addition, HTML5 enables live integration with search engines and leading social media platforms, like Facebook and Twitter, so that online activities among user communities can be shown on the digital signage screen in real time.
Retail promotion can feature the latest web activities such as voting and check-in’s to excite the in-store atmosphere. Hospitality signage can display recommendations and reviews to help guests enjoy a better service experience. Data-driven signage, such as transportation schedules, meeting room signage and even e-menu boards, are simple to implement using the automation and style-sheet features of HTML5.
IAdea’s new XMP-3250, XMP-3350 and XMP-3450 media appliances, as well as the new XDS-1950 and XDS-2450 digital signboards, now ship with HTML5 capability built-in. The new IAdea Bridge Server version 3.0 from Scala will enable users to schedule HTML5 content through Scala for the new IAdea devices.
“We’re excited to have support from IAdea for their next generation players,” stated Jeff Porter, Scala’s President, SignChannel. “HTML5 support means that even low-end appliance-based players can display advanced graphical animations and real-time data.”
“Three years ago, IAdea changed the digital signage industry by providing the SMIL open platform, which is now the largest interoperability ecosystem in digital signage,” said IAdea’s Executive VP Rex Chen. “Today we are changing the industry once more by bringing HTML5 to the Scala’s leading management platform, reducing content production cost while making digital signage applications always fresh and relevant to the viewer, a key success factor to great digital signage which has been difficult to achieve.”
The new products from Scala and IAdea will be available worldwide in February 2012. Scala and IAdea will jointly demonstrate the new solution at the upcoming Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2012, January 31 – February 2, 2012 at Amsterdam RAI, NL, and the Digital Signage Expo (DSE) 2012, March 6-9, 2012, Las Vegas, USA.
