In a shocking official statement by its VP Danny Winokur, Adobe officially announces the death of Flash on mobile devices:
“We will no longer continue to develop Flash Player in the browser to work with new mobile device configurations”
Instead, Adobe will switch to HTML5 as the next-gen content platform:
“HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively. This makes HTML5 the best solution for creating and deploying content in the browser across mobile platforms.” (emphasis added)
For digital signage which is moving to embrace integration with the mobile display, dynamic content that cannot play on new devices is simply not acceptable. This announcement is no different than saying “please forget about Flash and let’s move on to HTML5.” In fact, Adobe itself has been previewing its upcoming Edge authoring tool focusing on HTML5 and promoting its user groups to brace the new platform. This means that going forward, IAdea’s upcoming XMP-3250 Dynamic Player, with its market-leading HTML5 capability and 1080p multi-cast streaming in a palm-size box, will be the optimal choice for digital signage projects. We are now supplying limited number of engineering samples of the XMP-3250 to HTML5 developers for software integration. Contact us for more information and be informed when XMP-3250 launches very shortly. Related reading:
